Open Courses - The Beyond Series Workshops
The Beyond Workshops are aimed at managers and leaders and are small workshops with a maximum of 12 delegates that aim to help you explore ways to develop your influence in a range of management situations. These include Beyond Presentations and Beyond Conversation.
Beyond Presentations
Delivering presentations that have an impact and can influence positively is a key part of the role of most middle and senior managers and yet it is an area in which many managers still fail to maximise their impact.
One of the reasons for this is that training in presentations is often given quite early in a managers career and little attention is paid after that - it is assumed that practice and experience in presenting will suffice.
In this workshop you will learn:-
- How to ensure your presentation is as influential as possible
- How to present difficult or challenging messages
- How to recognise and manage resistance
- How to create interaction even in large groups
- How to present yourself confidently and have personal impact
- How to give presentations that people remember (for all the right reasons)!
Beyond Conversation - Having Courageous Conversations
Conducting difficult conversations about things like poor performance, inappropriate behaviour and negative attitudes are not things any of us look forward. However, in the current economic climate there is going to be an increasing need to have courageous conversations and to manage them well.
This workshop will review the reasons why we put off having these conversations and will provide practical ways to prepare and handle those critical encounters.
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Recognise some of the barriers to meaningful conversations
- Deliver timely feedback in a non judgemental way
- Identify the three questions that are key to preparing for difficult conversations
- Use a structured framework to conduct the conversation
- Identify different ways to deal with defensive reactions
These workshops provide a unique forum to receive feedback from other managers and experienced facilitators on the impact you have, your presence and your ability to influence in these situations. These sessions can be delivered in-house and are also available as open programmes.
These courses are hosted by North West Employers and full details of the content, dates and cost can be found at www.nwemployers.org.uk
Quotes from past delegates
"Attending Beyond Presentations and Beyond Conversations were the most significant learning experiences I have had throughout my career. Both sessions impacted on my self-knowledge and confidence as a manager and a leader and I continue to put into practice daily what I learnt. I wish we had access to a similar programme in New Zealand!"
Sue Roberts, University Librarian, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
"One of the most thought provoking events I have attended in recent years. The opportunity to get feedback is rare and very valuable. I would highly recommend this course"
David Rudd, Lawyer
"The Beyond courses have really made me stop and think. I have had insights into presence, presentations, negotiation and impact which have been worth their weight in gold. In real life, I've tried out many of things that I discovered with Deborah, Lois and the course participants; I can hardly believe how effective they have been. I strongly recommend the Beyond courses. They are something special."
Caroline Williams, Deputy Director of Mimas, The University of Manchester
